Jingle Wedding Bells: A real life Christmas wedding
18 December 2015
More and more brides and grooms are choosing to have their weddings at this magical time of year with twinkly lights, candles and warm fires creating a romantic atmosphere. So for this week’s blog we thought we’d take a look at a real life Christmas wedding.
Anna and Ian McGregor choose Peckforton Castle as the venue for their festive nuptials in late December, with visions of the stunning building lit up at night and alive with roaring fires and large Christmas trees. When we met, about a year before, Anna was very clear that she didn’t wants lots of flowers, but more of an abundance of Christmassy foliage and candles galore. She described a winter wonderland look so we set to work on ways we create a real twinkly glow to the wedding.
We adorned the venue with lots of frosted cones and varying evergreens and then littered pillar candles and tea lights throughout. Instead of traditional floral table centres, the couple opted for a plethora of candles standing on distressed silvery candlesticks of various sizes, in glass jars and within pretty tea light holders, grouped on a mirrored base. Intermingling pinecones and a hint of spruce gave the finishing touches. Given the time of year, the wedding breakfast was a truly magical sight as the dark night drew in.
Archways were dressed with lots of spruce, eucalyptus and cinerea, amongst others, to produce an enchanting seasonal feel. You can imagine how divine the rooms smelled with all that festive foliage!
For the bride’s and bridesmaid’s bouquets, we used flowers in shades of frosty white, combining roses, senecio, kochia, eucalyptus and mini pine cones to create designs with an abundance of texture and a classic winter feel. These delicate designs contrasted with the elegant grey of the bridesmaid’s dresses and worked particularly well with Anna’s pretty and intricate gown. The buttonholes were a simple reflection of the bouquet with a single rose stem.
The bride and groom were an absolute dream to work with throughout and we had such a good giggle. We loved their extra Christmassy touches, with Santa hats provided as favours and younger guests receiving special deliveries from Lapland. Every wedding day is special but the enchanting combination of twinkling lights, dark evenings and everyone’s Christmassy mood does seem to result in a joyful celebration!
