Romantic and Rustic Autumn Blooms at this Beautiful Barn Wedding

You’re in for a blooming treat with this awe-inspiring colour palette from Sophie and Richard’s autumn wedding. This fab couple tied the knot in October 2022 at Owen House Wedding Barn, a stunning rustic venue nestled in the Cheshire countryside.

I’d first met Sophie at one of our Christmas flower workshops and quickly realised she was a fellow flower lover! When she approached me to create her wedding flowers, I knew we would be working together to create something truly spectacular. I wasn’t wrong!

With their wedding planned for October, Sophie and Richard naturally wanted to incorporate an autumnal look for their big day. Autumn is a stunning season and offers brides a huge amount of choice when it comes to creating breath-taking wedding blooms.

Like many brides planning their wedding theme, Sophie came prepared with a Pinterest board brimming with floral inspiration for her big day. This gave us a great starting point to chat through ideas and adapt them to match the vision that Sophie and Richard had in mind. Knowing that we were clear on the agreed style from the beginning meant that Sophie was able to give us free reign to select the best seasonal (and most gorgeous) flowers on the run up to the wedding.

To create a rustic chic vibe just perfect for their barn venue, Sophie and Richard chose a wonderful selection of autumnal shades combined with soft peaches and lots of grasses. Sophie’s favourite flower is the chrysanthemum with its gorgeous bold pompom like appearance. Chrysanthemums also happen to be at their seasonal best in autumn, so it made sense that this pretty bloom would feature prominently in their wedding flowers. With beautiful roses, autumnal berries and lots of sage green foliage, their simple stunning colour choices allowed us to create something spectacular for this happy couple.

Sophie’s seven bridesmaids all had a smaller version of her beautiful bouquet which helped add extra impact and flow to the floral theme. To maximise these bouquets (and further show off their beauty) we placed the bridesmaids’ bouquets in vases across the top table, pairing them with smaller vases of blooms and candles in glass votives. For the final finishing touches we added some extra autumnal charm by using decorative pumpkins and gourds of varying sizes, shapes and colours too.

To add some extra wedding-wow to their top table, Sophie and Richard opted for a big, bold and exciting floral installation. Using foliage and flowers matching the bridal bouquets, we created a unique floral arrangement in the lighting trough above the top table. Incorporating lots of peach roses, drooping foliage like eucalyptus and ivy, pretty pampas grass and creamy chrysanthemums, this stunning hanging design was a fantastic floral focal point that added a rustic yet elegant look to this stunning wedding.

Sophie had these kind words to say:

“I was absolutely blown away when I stepped into the barn after our ceremony as I hadn't seen it all dressed. It looked sensational, you absolutely nailed it, and we received so many compliments on the colours, tones, different flowers and textures used, as well as the beautiful scents that filled the room.

The display on top of the trough lighting in the main barn was utterly beautiful. The flowers draping down created the most incredible shadow effect on the white wall behind the top table which so many people commented on. Our waitress from Vanilla in All Seasons said that our setup with all the floral displays was the best she had ever seen at Owen House. We owe it to you guys at the Flower Lounge - your work is always so lovely, and we couldn't have asked for more from you, so thank you.”

We love it when our couples are florally floored by our work! Sophie and Richard’s wedding was simply a dream to work on. One of our favourite details from the day was the little chrysanthemum bud we incorporated into Richard’s buttonhole. It’s so unusual to find a bud that we simply knew that it needed pride of place in his buttonhole!

Many thanks to James Merrick Photography for sharing these blooming gorgeous photos of the day. We loved how much bold floral beauty there was at this barn wedding, and we’ve simply adored adding all the extra dreamy details to make it perfect. From unique buttonhole buds to floral focal points and tons of autumnal charm, we think Sophie and Richard’s big day (even if we say so ourselves) was utterly gourd-geous!

If you’re looking to add some floral flair to your wedding or are dreaming of some extra-special bridal blooms for your big day, then why not get in touch? We’d love to hear from you.
