5 essential tips for getting Mother's Day right this year

26 February 2016

Mum’s are the best right? Whether it’s to get in her good books, butter her up for a favour or simply to say “Thank-you”, flowers are a sure-fire way to make sure she knows she’s loved and appreciated on Mother’s Day.

But this doesn’t mean grabbing an insipid bunch from the local garage.  That will actually achieve the exact opposite and may find you in the doghouse. Instead, here’s our top 5 tips for getting it right this year.

1. Don’t believe her when she says she’s not bothered

She may well say the exact opposite but every mum deserves (and secretly hopes for) a fuss. It can be a simple gesture such as a phone call, a card or a family lunch, but recognition and a reminder of how much her children love her is hugely important. Flowers are a wonderfully simple way of expressing your appreciation for all that she does, which is why they have become the synonymous gift of Mother’s Day.  Wonderfully timed with the early signs of Spring, fresh and scented blooms are the perfect treat she rarely thinks to buy for herself.

We have some gorgeous spring blooms arriving in the shop from cheery daffodils and bright tulips to intoxicating hyacinths and pretty daisies, see our range here.

2. Don’t leave it to the last minute

Putting off getting something organised is reliable way of forgetting.  Or, if you manage to remember, but last minute, then you can be sure the garage flowers are beckoning.  At The Flower Lounge, you can order today for deliveries right up to and including the day itself.  So you can sit back smugly and watch your siblings scramble as the day approaches.

3. Do spoil her

She is your mum. Your amazing, super-woman, always-forgiving, ever-loving mum.  So she deserves more than a fiver spent on supermarket flowers doesn’t she?  Think about it; “Here you go mum, I love you this much…”  Not that we advocate telling your mum you love her just one day a year, but it is ONE day of the year, so make it meaningful.  Our bouquets start at £30 but we can deliver real WOW factor for budgets of £45 and beyond.  Take a look.

4. Don’t be generic

Show your mum you care by putting some real thought into your gift.  Perhaps you know her favourite flower or colour that we can use as a basis to your arrangement.  If you don’t, think about where’s she’s likely to display it, we can make recommendations on displays to complement décor or space.  Alternatively, describe her personality; is she bubbly, quirky, calm, traditional? Our skilled team of florists will help you create a bespoke bouquet, perfect for a one-off mum.

5. Surprise her

Who doesn’t love opening the door to an unexpected gift, especially if it’s a stunning bunch of flowers!  We’re taking orders right up to the day itself for local deliveries around Didsbury, Greater Manchester and parts of Cheshire, so even if you can’t be there, she will still be bowled over.  If you’re looking to send flowers further afield, then place your order by Thursday 3rd March for delivery on Friday 4th.

Alternatively, we are open until 6pm on Saturday 5th for any collections and to ensure your blooms remain fresh for as long as possible.  Of course we can accommodate any last minute orders on that day too…we’re saying nothing! Take a look at our dedicated Mother's Day flowers on our website for some inspiration.

So there you have it, 5 simple ways to instantly become Mum’s favourite this year!

PS. It’s on Sunday 6th March.  Last tip…. Don’t Forget!!
