Didsbury House Hotel - a little bit of luxury

24 June 2016

Set unassumingly on the outskirts of Didsbury Village is Didsbury House Hotel, a charming and tranquil boutique villa which we have been delighted to adorn with beautiful blooms on many an occasion.

Part of the Eclectic Hotel Group, Didsbury House Hotel is a striking combination of new and old.  Sweeping, dramatic staircases stand out against the fresh, crisp white décor.  Attractive period cornice and large, bay windows sit comfortably with modern art and statement pieces. The overall ambience is both tranquil and welcoming so there is no wonder that many of our brides and grooms who have visited have become smitten.

As a florist, the space presents plenty of dressing opportunities, with little nooks and crannies to fill with vintage votives and glinting candles, handsome original fireplaces on which to drape swathes of greenery or mix and match vases filled with single stems and glorious banisters to twist garlands of eucalyptus and ivy.  We love it when we see a bride coming down that staircase that we have adorned with flowers, it’s truly magical and a breath-taking moment for the family to watch.

As an exclusive-use wedding venue, couples have the opportunity to both entertain and accommodate their guests in the 27 bedrooms.  The reception rooms each have their own personality; we love the homeliness of the comfy snug and the relaxing atmosphere and plush sofas in the Gold Lounge, overlooking the lawn. But the drama definitely comes from the Blue Lounge which is licensed for marriage and so often used by couples looking for civil ceremonies and receptions at the same venue.  We love using tall, free-standing candelabra’s here to really frame the alter and provide an attractive backdrop to photographs capturing the ‘I do’s’.

We loved Laura’s wedding where we decorated the venue with bold, popping colours of coral, blue and lime green. It was really vibrant, contemporary and worked amazingly well against the cool décor.

The villa works well for both summer and winter weddings, with real fires and cosy interiors creating a classic inviting feel and the lovely terrace providing an ideal setting for a summer’s BBQ or Pimms reception.  It can look beautiful using jam jars stuffed with meadow flowers and pretty bunting.  But with fixed heating, there’s no reason the space couldn’t be used in the chillier months, transformed with draping fairy lights and dotted glinting candles.

Using the outside space is often overlooked by brides.  For Nicola and Cosmo’s wedding, we used Didsbury House Hotel’s imposing doorway, framing it with white roses and hydrangea, which worked so well on the photographs. Others have chosen a traditional door wreath in the shape of a heart. Alice and Will used an old bicycle to direct guests to the ceremony, the basket of which we filled to overflowing with roses, eucalyptus and spray roses.

We’ve dressed a number of events at Didsbury House too as the venue has proved to be popular with businesses, looking to impress their staff or delegates with a little bit of luxury and elegance.  The white, gold and cool blue walls work well with statement arrangements using peonies, hydrangea and stocks in Summer or amaryllis, eucalyptus and ivy in winter.  The venue is flexible enough to switch from meeting rooms, break-out areas and buffet-style lunches to welcome receptions, chill-out spaces and decadent dining.  We love showing how flowers can accentuate such spaces and really change the mood.

Whether you’re looking for a traditional sit-down wedding or an informal house party, Didsbury House is a unique venue mixing all the eccentricity and drama you want for your event with a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. We love working with Jenny and her amazing team and would jump at the chance to work with you and them on your next event.   Just give us a call on 0161 446 2556 for a free consultation.

(We would also recommend a night’s stay for extra sumptuousness and their legendary afternoon teas!)
