A Resplendent Year for The Flower Lounge

As our final blog of the year we couldn’t resist a little look back at some of the most amazing things that have happened this year – many of which are down to our wonderful customers and suppliers, who we simply can’t thank enough…although we’re going to try!
Every year I think, “it can’t get better than this!” but 2016 has been the icing on the cake to our 7 years as The Flower Lounge in Didsbury.
Flying the floristry flag for the North
As a florist, organisations such as The Good Florist Guide and The British Florist Association are our bibles; run by people such as Caroline Marshall Foster who I’ve admired for many years. This year I was honoured to be chosen to represent the North of England and sit on an advisory panel for the Good Florist Guide; helping to shape the floristry industry and strengthen professionalism within the sector.
Then I was approached by the British Florist Association to be their Retail Director; a really exciting role that will focus on raising awareness of retail florists and inspiring the florists themselves to be the very best they can be!
It’s a big job – well two jobs – but opportunities like this don’t come around very often and they really tap into my passion for promoting excellence, creativity and improving the quality of flowers, ranges and services we can provide.

You may have also seen us jumping for joy in November as we were awarded The Wedding Industry Awards North West Wedding Florist of the Year - for the third year running!
This is down to our amazing brides and grooms who nominated and voted for us – their support and wonderful feedback meant we were able to secure the hat trick! And as @TWIA_official tweeted, it was literally “bedlam” with whoops and well wishes as we stepped up to accept the award. Winning 3 years in a row is such a significant achievement that I still have to pinch myself to know it’s real!
An abundance of weddings
This year has been our busiest yet for weddings and whilst we’ve been working our green fingers to the bone, being part of a couple’s perfect day is always so special and often emotional for us too! I’ve been known to shed a tear or two when delivering the bride’s bouquet – happy tears of course. So, I wanted to take this opportunity to send our love and best wishes to all our newlyweds; you’ve helped to make 2016 simply spectacular.
There’s soooo many people I want to say thank you to; our many loyal customers who brighten my day when they drop by the shop for their flowers, our growers and flower suppliers who work hard to deliver us only the very best blooms and have even broadened my knowledge with a trip to Holland this year and finally our partners in crime – particularly our wedding friends – who work alongside us so seamlessly to fulfil the design vision of our customers.
But perhaps the most important of all to – Steve, Hayley, Emma, Sarah and Mark – The Flower Lounge team – thank you for your support and inspiration. It’s a true team effort!
Now as we march in to 2017, with a new look for The Flower Lounge, I can’t wait to see what 2017 brings.
