Pippa's Fairytale Flowers

25 May 2017

While the press attention was all focussed on the dress, her sister’s maternal instincts and the cuteness of her niece and nephew, it was the flowers at Pippa Middleton’s wedding that we were eager to see.

We’d made predictions that she would opt for subtle colours and wondered if she’d be braver than her sister’s wired posy and go a little wilder…

The ceremony was held at St. Mark’s Church in Englefield where guests were greeted with a stunningly dressed lychgate, brimming with soft white and pink flowers and giving a taste of what was to come inside.

Summery and romantic, Pippa chose elegant peonies and classic roses to adorn the church, adding astilbe, lilac and fragrant stocks, which will have made the building smell simply divine.  Thlaspi green bell, phlox, wax flowers and trailing ivy were used to add contrasting colour and texture to the heavenly ivory and pink palette.  These shades are very popular with our brides at the moment, creating an opulent and quintessentially English tone to recent weddings.

Pippa tapped into the current trend for overhead and high displays, wrapping barks and branches around pillars and using abundant arrangements to spill from tall pillars and decorative church windows.

The bride’s bouquet was a very delicate and pretty posy of peonies, freesia, sweet peas and astilbe, very reminiscent of her sister’s chosen style.  Even though she is very petite, I think she could have carried off something a little larger and looser and would love to have seen a touch more greenery to complement the church flower décor. But there is no doubt that Pippa looked just mesmerising in her Giles Deacon gown.

We loved the gypsophila crowns worn by the bridesmaids and the cute heart-shaped wreath carried by Princess Charlotte, packed with gypsophila and wax flower.  We definitely see that as an emerging trend for future weddings.

The reception was held in the garden of Pippa and James’ £5million home in Bucklebury, Berkshire where images have emerged of a magnificent glass dome filled with full-sized, flowering cherry trees!  Not within the budget of a typical wedding but jaw-dropping nevertheless!

The theme was reportedly ‘Enchanted Forest’ which we think was beautifully executed.  Spring green table cloths were adorned with the same beautiful pink and white roses, peonies and thlaspi green bell and interspersed with deep green foliage.  These will have been set off perfectly with the gold place settings that were used.

The floral displays and arrangements for Pippa Middleton’s wedding will have been in the tens of thousands.  No-one can argue that the end effect was dramatic, exquisite and spectacular.  Take a look for yourself

Of course, we will welcome you with open arms with that kind of budget (!!) but for those of us in the real world, that same striking, romantic and lavish feel can be achieved through the careful selection of lush flowers, clever styling and thoughtful planning.  We’ve included some examples of how The Flower Lounge have executed this look for their brides. Yes, you too can be an (almost) princess for the day.
