A True Mancunian Wedding
Every so often our brides and grooms-to-be present us with a theme and it’s our job to help them bring this to life. A clear theme can make the job easy, a strong theme is a creative delight. And that’s exactly how we felt about Corrie and Tom’s vision for their wedding in February this year.
Their theme was ‘Manchester’, with a ceremony appropriately held at Manchester Town Hall, moving on to Victoria Warehouse for the celebrations. Being in the cold months of winter, the occasion was subtly moody and atmospheric, accentuated by the theatrical space of the two buildings, and reflected in the stunning photography from Toast of Leeds.
Tapping into the heritage of Manchester’s industrial past, the aisle was lined with over-sized vases filled with branches of the cotton plant and finished with delicate fairy lights, wrapped around their stems. Set against the phenomenal backdrop of the stained glass in the Town Hall’s stunning Conference Hall, the anticipation for the imminent ceremony was palpable.
It was inevitable that the Manchester bee would make an appearance, firstly greeting visitors on the iconic tiled floor of the Town Hall and then artistically used across the wedding stationary and place settings, personalised with the date of Corrie and Tom’s special day. The latter nestled against the large vases filled with cotton branches and lights (reused from the ceremony), balanced with drapes of eucalyptus and pops of colour provided by craspedia.
A bright yellow pom-pom, the craspedia is an ultra-trendy flower and, used throughout all the wedding arrangements, absolutely ‘pinged,’ bringing plenty of personality and colour, in amongst the subtle moodiness of the venues.
Corrie’s bouquet was made up of these sensational flowers alongside further cotton, hypericum, ranunculus, vuvuzela roses, craspedia and scabiosa pods with berried eucalyptus creating volume and loosening the effect. The overall look was pretty but wild and natural. Tom’s buttonhole complemented the bouquet using a single craspedia, stems of hypericum and scabious pods, openly tied with twine. Corrie even wore a few stems in her tousled hair, applied at the very last minute for freshness.
Taking place in the afternoon and late into the evening, Shelley at Toast of Leeds secured some stunning shots of the couple using the contrasting light from the decorative windows against the darkness of the stone walls. Naturally, at this time of year, lighting was not only crucial, but dramatic and incredibly effective. As well as fairy lights scattered throughout Victoria Warehouse, light-up letters were used and looked amazing.
The impact of Corrie and Tom’s wedding was striking, atmospheric and exquisite. Being a Mancunian myself, I loved the theme – even a little rainy weather made for a wedding all the more Manc.
