Getting Creative with Flowers – a view from Kate Higham

After the dark winter months, we’re celebrating the start of a slowly approaching new season with our series of spring workshops.

Flowers are a beautiful way to add colour and texture to your home but feel even better if you’ve created the display yourself! Our workshops are entertaining, interactive and a wonderful way to get creative.

But don’t just take our word for it. Kate Higham, from Didsbury, decided to book onto our Christmas wreath workshop after we created her flowers for her beautiful wedding day. And she very kindly agreed to share her first foray into flower arranging with us…

Why did you book onto the workshop? Have you done any floristry before?

Sian and the team did my wedding flowers and they were AMAZING! I knew how beautiful their flowers are and despite having zero floristry experience I wanted to give it a go. I also thought it’d be a lovely thing to do with my friends.

What was your favourite bit?

Getting stuck in and having a go after we’d been shown what to do. Although it was nice having the professionals there to help when I got stuck! The prosecco was an added bonus...it made it fun and relaxed.

Tell us about your creation?

I think my wreath was beautiful! I loved the little touches like the dried oranges and the berries that were provided and I wanted it to be colourful, so I used a lot of those!

What did you learn? Did you impress yourself?

I was very impressed with myself, it looked fab in the end and I managed to remember the different techniques I’d been shown! I hung it on my door immediately and I got so many positive comments from friends, family and neighbours. I also posted pictures all over Instagram and got a lot of compliments!

Would you recommend our workshops?

I’d definitely recommend them! My friend and I have already booked to do another one! It was a fun and creative thing to do with friends, and certainly not something I do every day. And an added bonus was that I ended up with a beautiful wreath to take home at the end.

We’re so grateful to Kate for sharing her experience and hope she has inspired you to give one of our workshops a go!

Using traditional, natural materials, Spring blooms and fresh foliage, this is the time to shake off those Winter blues, get creative and customise your own unique Spring décor. Workshops start with a short session demonstrating how to create a long-lasting arrangement and the basic techniques, before inspiring you with ways to make it your own. Whatever your skill level this is a chance to learn new techniques and take away some of our trade secrets…as well as your super spring display!

Our Spring workshops launch mid-March and are ideal gifts or a treat for those looking to spend an afternoon getting creative. Choose from a Spring hand-tie workshop or pretty door wreath session, available to book via Eventbrite. Places are limited and tend to book up quickly, so don’t dilly dally! We look forward to welcoming you very soon!
