A Very Royal Wedding at Owen House Barn
While the world waited with baited breath for Meghan Markle to make her appearance at St George's Chapel on Saturday, we were busy creating our own dream wedding for a very special couple at Owen House Barn, Cheshire.
Just like the incredibly elegant Harry and Meghan, our bride and groom, Kelly-Marie and James, were the epitome of chilled, enjoying the beautiful weather bestowed upon them and no doubt enjoying the Royal wedding fever that has gripped the nation.
It goes without saying that we were excited to see what Meghan had chosen with her uber-talented florist Phillipa Craddock. As noon approached we were huddled around my iPhone with Heather from Barretts Catering and Chris from Owen House Barn eager to get our first glimpse!
Whilst we’d heard a few rumours from suppliers about LOTS of white, it felt almost like fate as Megan appeared and revealed her beautiful white and green colour scheme that mirrored our very own for Kelly-Marie!
Much like every bride, Meghan chose flowers that had a special significance to her. She opted for Forget-Me-Nots, Princess Diana's favourite flowers. She also included scented sweet peas, lily of the valley, astilbe, jasmine and astrantia, which were all bound with a naturally dyed, raw silk ribbon.
Our very own creation used heavenly English garden roses, peonies, ranunculus, eucalyptus and, just like the new Duchess, magical sweet peas. It was our very own fairy-tale wedding.
We’re told that husband Harry also handpicked several flowers from the couple's private garden at their home at Kensington Palace, and, in keeping with tradition, a sprig of myrtle was included in her bouquet. We also believe in using locally sourced flowers – not quite Windsor Great Park!! but instead from Carol Siddorn, who produces homegrown, wildflowers from her Cheshire Flower farm.
One of the things I think we all adored at the Royal wedding was the use of complementary flowers and foliage to adorn St George’s Chapel and Hall. The impressive branches of beech, birch and hornbeam, as well as white garden roses, peonies and foxgloves, simply took our breath away.
We love it when our brides want to use flowers to create something extraordinary. Whether it’s framing the aisle, designing a stunning backdrop to the altar or using fresh flowers on the wedding cake (just like Meghan and Harry did), flowers can really make a room come alive and create the dream wedding atmosphere.
