Inspirational Wedding Colour Palettes

Traditional wedding colour palettes tend to focus on white, it is, after all, the colour usually worn by the bride. However, with weddings becoming less traditional, so too the colour palette for wedding florals are becoming more individual and unique.

But choosing colours can be a daunting task. You need to pick something that will complement your venue, is in season, is something you and your groom like, and reflects the mood and tone you are trying to set.

To give you some inspiration, I’ve selected some beautiful wedding colour palettes, taken from real-life weddings and Flower Lounge photoshoots that I hope will inspire you to look beyond traditional whites and pastels, and go for something more unusual and distinct.

Cornflower, Apricot & Yellow

I created this bouquet with the ‘WOW’ factor for Anna and Thom and the gorgeous colour combination is one of my recurring favourites. Perfectly embodying spring, this bouquet featuring cornflower blue hydrangea, luscious apricot roses and textured yellow craspedia for pops of colour and height is a fun and youthful. The vivid colour combination looks beautiful against the faded, urban glamour of Victoria Baths where Anna and Thom chose to get married.

Gold, Peach & Sage

This dusky, muted colour palette chosen here by the lovely Corrie was perfect for her city centre wedding. The gorgeous peach ranunculus and pink roses with the gold centre were the stars of the show, while the pretty pearlized hypericum berries and beautifully shaped, dried, scabious added interest and a neutral tone to complement the bold colours we’d used. The beautiful, sage green eucalyptus added volume, texture and scent, while the bright yellow craspedia added a warm golden glow. We loved this combo so much we used it on a recent photo shoot with Florence and Vera Events where we matched it with a beautiful bohemian The Case of the Curious Bride wedding dress and loose, relaxed hair.

Merlot, Peach & Mink

I simply adore this combination of colours and was thrilled when Anna and Amit decided to choose this palette for their summer Hindu wedding. Completely in season, this gorgeous bouquet is bursting with texture, colour and interest. The central flower, around which the rest of the bouquet is arranged, is the incredible mink coloured protea. Surrounded by peach vuvuzela roses and spray roses, delicate wildflowers and grasses, as well as berries, thistles and foliage. The drama of this colour combination comes courtesy of the wine-coloured berries that frame the lighter colours in the bouquet.

White, Green & Barely Blush

Subtle and romantic, this is a modern-day fairy-tale version of a traditional wedding colour palette. Real-life wedding couple Frankie and Tom sprang to mind instantly as they wanted their flowers to create an ethereal, dreamy effect. Their flowers combined beautifully scented silvery green eucalyptus with delicate white and barely blush O’Hara, Yves Piaget and Snow Ballet roses as well as mesmerising ranunculus and pretty sweetpeas. Beautifully classic, modern and feminine this palette would be perfect at a summer wedding when these gorgeous blooms are in season.

Navy, Masala & Tangerine

Welcome to the winter wonderland of photographer, Ayesha’s bouquet. This decadent, dramatic masterpiece was so much fun to create, and the moody hues of the bouquet enhance the moody, urban setting of their city centre venue. The navy steel berries complement the romantic, blousy pink peonies and protea. While the vivid, ‘pop’ of the tangerine coloured hypericum berries looks fantastic and complements the groom’s choice of tie. Plenty of silvery, green and feathery foliage stops this colour palette becoming too stark and adds a beautiful, neutral tone.

Blush, Ivory & Cinnamon

This rich, warm and prettily neutral colour palette was featured heavily in a recent Modern Romance photo shoot with Nesta Lloyd Photography. The aged pastel pink and brown combination reminds me of sepia toned old films and photographs. The colour palette suits the loose, textured, romantic style of the bouquet and the velvety, voluptuousness of the roses and hydrangea look fabulous against the feathery ferns, eucalyptus and grasses. This colour palette and style of bouquet would look fabulous at a rustic barn style wedding.

Coral, Raspberry & Wine

Last but not certainly least, we have the beautiful wedding of Sarah and Adam. Her luscious bouquet combines the colourful, sophisticated and bohemian palette of coral, raspberry and wine. The Coral Charm peonies and ranunculus’ frilly and velvety texture look fabulous against the bright raspberry hydrangea, vivid red poppies and deep wine coloured ranunculus. The palette is cooled down by the pastel shades of wonderfully scented stocks and lilacs. All enhanced by an abundance of ethereal foliage. The effect is simply stunning.
