Questions to ask your Wedding Florist
We make no secret about our love of weddings. Aside of working with giddy couples and getting the opportunity to express our creativity on a grand scale, there’s nothing more rewarding than helping make someone’s dreams come true.
Your wedding florist is a key supplier and their style and your compatibility as a team has a big impact on your big day. It is imperative therefore that you do your research and find someone that’s right for you.
So below are our answers to some of the things you might be wondering or suggestions for questions if you’re only just starting out in finding your wedding florist!
Is my date available?
At The Flower Lounge we operate an appointment booking system for consultations and we make a point of finding out your date before we even sit down together. The last thing we would want is for us both to get enthusiastic about ideas and plans, only to discover that the date’s booked up.
We do a limited number of weddings each day and dates do get taken quickly, often a year before, but some as far back as 2 years in advance, so it’s important that you lock this down early.
Do you charge for the initial consultation?
No, the initial consultation is free, in our view we can’t quote for you if we haven’t discussed what you want! We have a dedicated room in the shop, dressed with images and props available to hire so we can highlight our ideas and experience in a very visual way. We also send out a pre-consultation form for you to fill in so you can start to consider some of the questions that we’ll likely ask. We usually allocate and hour and suggest a maximum of two in attendance.
How many consultations will we have?
We meet for a second time around 4 to 5 weeks before your wedding to finalise your ideas, agree a final list of requirements and discuss any fine detail. We find this is usually enough, especially since we’re happy to chat in between times, however, if you require an additional meet, we charge £25 for an hours’ consultation, including those at your chosen venue.
Have you got examples of previous wedding work you have done?
Yes, we have some fabulous relationships with many photographers who have been kind enough to share their work, so we have plenty to show you. Can you work within my budget?
It is so important that you give this some thought upfront. It can often be a chicken and egg scenario; how much will it cost? how much do you have to spend? But consider the role that flowers have to play at your wedding. If they are key to your vision, it is worth budgeting a reasonable amount. If they are more of a finishing touch, then we can help you prioritise or suggest ways to maximise your budget. We have a minimum spend of £750, but as a rough guide, our couples typically spend between £1,000 to £8,000 on their wedding flowers and decorations.
Will you deliver the flowers on the day?
Yes, aside from anything else, we love seeing your reaction! We will deliver them direct to you on the morning of your wedding at an agreed time, usually 2 hours before. The team and I will also deliver all arrangements to your venue and set everything up in line with your instructions, as well as picking everything up after the event, so that’s one (or two!) less things for you to worry about.
Will you help me select the right flowers or do I need to know exactly what I want?
We don’t mind either way. If you have a clear idea or a favourite flower, we can discuss how we can incorporate them into your wedding. Alternatively, we can consider your colour palette, the style of your dress, the time of year and your budget to agree the best creative solution for you. Seasonality plays a big part in these decisions; out of season, some flowers can be difficult, impossible or expensive to get hold of, in season, they can present the best value and allow you to spread your budget that much further.
Does my dress affect my style of bouquet?
There are a whole range of options for your bouquet and the style of dress can help decide what’s right for you. Trailing shapes look stunning with full and voluminous gowns whereas neat tied posies can finish off a cute peplum dress perfectly. Some brides opt for an elegant few stems and calla lilies work particularly well, especially with a sleek silk number. Fabric too can play a part in influencing what textures to select, so it’s well worth bringing a picture or describing it to us…assuming you’ve found The One!
Do you rent vases or candelabras?
Yes, we have a great selection of accessories, high quality LSA vases and props that can really enhance your arrangements or heighten the mood of your venue. Our vintage-inspired cut-glass vases are really popular and look fabulous grouped together in varying sizes. Candles are always a winner, particularly for winter weddings and we have a great selection of tealight holders, hurricane jars, votives and floating candles for you to choose from. We also rent larger items including plinths, mirrors, trees and candelabra so we can dress your wedding for big drama, soft romance or flirty fun!
Apart from the bouquet, what else do I need?
This is entirely dependent on budget, but you might want to consider button-holes, bridesmaid posies, aisle decorations, pew ends, flower arches, table centres, hair flowers, corsages, cake accessories or car trimmings. Oh and don’t forget what a lovely gift flower bouquets can make for those close to you who no doubt have contributed their part to realising your wedding day! Mother of the bride springs to mind!

Can you assist me in the preservation of my bouquet?
Yes, we have information on a few ways that you can achieve this. It’s the biggest compliment ever when a bride asks us this!
When do I need to pay?
A £100 non-refundable deposit secures your wedding date. The remaining balance is required 2 weeks prior to the event.
