The Perfect Flowers for Mothers Day
Flowers are probably one of the most popular gifts to give on Mother’s Day, but choosing the best blooms for your mum can be a little bewildering…orchids, roses, tulips, alstroemeria, peonies lissianthus, astrantia, ranunculus; I can see how it all gets a bit overwhelming!
If you get a chance to visit us in the shop, you’ll get plenty of expert advice but, for those of you ordering online, I thought I’d wrap up some of our top tips in a handy blog.
The secret to choosing flowers for you mum is to simply think about her – what’s her personality like? If she was a flower, what would she be? You may find that she only buys roses for herself, but the wonderful thing about buying a bouquet for your mum is that you get an opportunity to present her with something different; an arrangement that you feel reflects her, and this is what shows you really care!
So, what type of mum do you have?
Sophisticated and classic
You can't beat an all white and green bouquet, but this doesn’t mean boring. Choosing blousy blooms like hydrangea, mixed with a classic flower, such as the Avalanche white rose and bold dark green foliage is simply stunning.
Soft and feminine
Ranunculus are so pretty and delicate, with a similar texture to the popular peony, they appeal to a gentile nature. They work wonderfully in a whimsical bouquet mixed with Spring inspired flowers such as pastel tulips, wisps of genista and dainty wax flower, finished with an assortment of soft flowing foliage.
Colourful and bubbly
Go for a pop of colour! A vase of bright blue, sweet smelling hyacinth or a burst of purple lisianthus punctuated amongst roses and orchids will give your bouquet that real wow factor. And who said red and pink don’t go together? The contrast of our beautiful red Rhodos roses against pretty, soft pink lilies is a bold colour choice.
Sleek and stylish
Opt for something simple and minimalistic. A mass of one type of flower such as a bouquet of dramatic, white lilies with their sculptured petals and fresh green foliage is a very stylish choice. Or consider exquisite Phalaenopsis orchids; a modern arrangement that is simply breath-taking.
A timeless design that celebrates the beauty and abundance of flowers will always be loved by someone who appreciates nature and creation. Lavish her with a bouquet bursting with meadow inspired roses, hydrangea, astrantia, veronica and thistle in soft, muted shades. Keep it natural and textured to appeal to her tenderness.
Whilst I appreciate no-one falls exactly into one of these categories, I hope you’ve got a few more ideas of the types of flowers that may appeal to your mum this Mother’s Day.
