The Beauty of Autumn Weddings

Two blogs about my love of Autumn? Yes! But this time I’m talking weddings. Interestingly, it’s a time of year when weddings seem to quieten down, with brides and grooms opting for warm summer or cosy winter celebrations.

However, I think the richness of colours and the textures of nature, make Autumn a particularly exciting season for a wedding, none more evident than at Bex and Al’s October wedding at Upper House in Hayfield.  Opting for a rich colour scheme of deep reds and burnt orange, choosing steel berries and black bacarra roses to take centre stage, Bex and Al embraced some of the hottest floral trends in Autumn wedding design right now.

Bold, sensual colours of plum, claret and burgundy are really in style; with traditional bridal pastels of cream, peach, pink and blue adding icier hues. This deeper, Victorian-esque palette is what true romanticism is all about! Team these florals with metallic containers (copper still being the metallic of the moment) and their reflective surface gives a multi-dimensional effect.

The popularity of naked wedding cakes shows no sign of slowing either, with couples choosing fresh blooms and swathes of foliage over fondant decorations. These examples from Yolk use flower of the moment, the dahlia, alongside delicately placed stems to incredible effect.

Calligraphy and oversized, personalised signage is still very popular for wedding stationery. Whether you choose blackboards, mirrors or weathered wood, drape swathes of eucalyptus or a few stems of trailing florals such as wisteria or jasmine to instantly soften and enhance.  We love the calligraphy trend right now (even having taken a few classes myself…though sticking to the day job!!) – it can add an endearing handmade feel to your wedding, while still being subtly opulent and divine!

Wild and loose arrangements with a just-picked feel are still reigning in bouquet style, with wine-coloured blooms or flowers in a peach hue packing a punch against the textures of foliage and seed heads. Pops of complimentary colour tend to come from berries during Autumn with rosehips, hypericum and steel berries being particularly hot right now.

Bex opted for steel berries and rosehips in her bouquet, using their texture and vibrancy to contrast against the white of her stunning Enzoani wedding dress from Love Bridal boutique and her beautiful hair piece, set perfectly by Flossy and Leigh. And not forgetting the handsome Al who looked very dapper in his Whitfield and Ward suit with complementary buttonhole.

The trend for table centre decorations is low and natural, with plenty of leafy greenery such as eucalyptus, succulents or bay leaf branches, teamed with tealights and candles in mix n match containers.  Trailing ivy can be good value and looks particularly fitting in Autumn, bringing the outdoors in, especially when accompanied by a few scattered autumnal leaves.

Bex chose to use the ultimate Autumn icon, the pumpkin, in her table decoration, which has undergone a complete resurgence in the build up to Halloween, with lots of our customers getting creative and ingenious with this humble gourd!

Finally, Bex and Al completed their wedding decoration with masses of foliage, hydrangea and amaranthus dressing the impressive candelabra hanging in the stately rooms of Upper House – a real statement piece. Roaring fires and a stag icon across their stationery simply added to the drama and grandeur of the day and provided a warm welcome to their Autumn wedding.

Just divine!
